Q: How did you get into parkour?
A: My friend and I actually saw it on TV. A showing of Ripley's Believe it Or Not! and I thought it was amazing. The showing didn't give us much info on the actual sports so we decided to look further into it. I brought the topic to my brother and we both agreed, this was our sport. I've been loving it ever since.
Q: What is your most memorable parkour moment?
A: It's actually a painful one.It was in my earlier years, I was practicing a reverse vault over a rail to a kong/monkey over the next. The first rail was about 4 1/2 feet away from the other and when I reversed, I went a little to far and my left leg came down on the second rail. This resulted in a massive bruise all the way up my calf. To make matters worse, because the hit was so hard my sweat gland went into overdrive on my calf. What came after that was a purple, bumpy, flaky dead skin covered leg. (It was quite gross...and the only solution the doctor gave me was to take a knife and scrape off the dead skin bumps; technically zits, off my leg. Ewww!)
Q: What do you like most about parkour?
A: The freedom and the fun. It's something that separates you from them. Instead of walking through a playground you have a faster and quicker way to get wherever your going. I think what I really like the most is how it impacts your everyday life in more than just physical strength. Mentally you become stronger. What used to be scary becomes benign and silly afterwards. Your self-confidence goes up, and your reflexes increase. You become lighter on your feet, and simple task become so much easier. It's such a perfectly rounded sport.
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world for
parkour, where would it be?
A: I haven't seen the whole world but I'd love to go to one of the Decapolis cities in Jordan. Nothing but ruins. Giant blocks of stone randomly scattered about the place. It would be the perfect spot for parkour.
Q: What are your future plans and/or dreams for your parkour?
A: To be a unique type of Traceur. Not one that follows all the basic movements of parkour but rather, invents his own and better ways. That's really the ultimate goal of parkour.
