Q: How did you get into parkour?

A: My friend showed me a couple David Belle videos and said, "He moves like you do." and all my friends present agreed. I've done 'parkour-like' movements since I was a kid but I now had a name to put to it and a way to focus it. I started training and became hooked like a heroin addict.

Q: What is your most memorable parkour moment?

A: It's hard to pin-point one moment because almost every time I go out, it is a new experience with deeper lessons and new realization and breakthroughs. The two that stick out most in my mind had to do with the Colorado Parkour classes at the Spot in Boulder. My first day going to the class, some old guy tried to accost me before I left for class, I got into a minor fender bender in Fort Collins and then one of my tires blew out while I was on I-25. There was so much resistance to me getting to class that day that I knew I had to make it and I pushed on anyway. It was a good day in class and that much resistence helped me have a firm resolve in continuing my training.

The other time was a very small instance in one of the classes at the Spot where I had just missed a small percision jump and I heard Ryan say "You just died." It kinda snapped me awake and helped me realize I needed to treat every motion with importance. "If you are faithful in small things you will be faithful in much." As you practice so shall you perform. For whatever reason, that comment always stuck in my head. There are a hundred or more experiences I could tell you but these were the first 2 that popped in my head.

Q: What do you like most about parkour?

A: The mentality of a different way to look at things as well as some of the Philosophy behind it. The idea of always making yourself better, being useful, and helping society - things I already lived in my life before Parkour. Also the idea of helping someone with Parkour by using it to save them or teaching them to use it. This concept is one I already practice in business and is often discussed with my associates. Parkour is always a challenge with new goals and new horizons - there are no ceilings except that which you place upon yourself. You won't find many fakers in Parkour because the reality of the art will expose your weaknesses quickly and show you where you need to improve. Your choice is what you decide to do about it. Also, Parkour is a kick in the pants, a total adrenaline rush!!! I love It!

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world for parkour, where would it be?

A: There are so many places I wanna go because there are so many possibilites for new adventures. I would have to go to Lisses and Dame du Lac cause it's Mecca - all traceurs have to go sometime. I also think it would be a kick to go to some of the ruined castles in Germany and Europe cause they would be fun. Anywhere I can really, so I can see all the possibilities other traceurs work with.

Q: What are your future plans and/or dreams for your parkour?

A: To be able to serve others with it and through it. I know at sometime God is going to call on me to use my skills with Parkour to either save someones life or save my own (may perhaps both). I desire to make sure I am ready for that call. Also to have some sort of National recognition (movies, events, etc.) and be able to work with some of the best in the Art would be awesome!

As far as Parkour as a whole, I think we have a seedling, a baby in our hands that we can raise in a number of different ways. We are right now in the midst of some of the most influential time in the history of Parkour and we can influence it for good or bad. One of the bigger debates right now in Parkour is the debate over Competition. It seems nearly inevitable that through the Media and major companies some sort of Competition Parkour event will be developed. We can effect this debate NOW if we take a proactive stance to make special events or competitions what we want them to be and thus eliminate the debate all together. If we don't some one else will. But what I think it will be is some sort of event with multiple competitions or events with in it. I think right now most Traceurs look at other sports to see what competition should be for Parkour. But Parkour is different then most any other sport out there so we should be open to some other venues that are comletely different then what we've seen before. I totally love the Freedom of Parkour and how it has developed, but honestly more freedom can be gained if we put just a bit of structure and form into certain parts of it. If we don't make it what we want, some one else will make it what they want. And now I'll step down from my soapbox.
