Red Rocks
Canyon Blvd. and Pearl St., Boulder, Colorado

Conditions - The conditions here are outstanding for an escape into the open space so close to the city. Literally on the western edge of Boulder, the area of Red Rocks offers beautiful trails, creeks, forests, meadows, and most importantly, many sandstone monoliths, fins, and boulders. Be sure to bring your own water if you plan to visit here as there is no water and the actual rocks are about a half mile hike uphill from the parking lot at Canyon and Pearl. There are some portions of the rocks that are crumbly, so check your surfaces thoroughly before doing any jumps. Also, keep an eye out for cacti, irregular surfaces, slippery gravel, and darting lizards and chipmonks.

Security - Unlike Red Rocks in Morrison, there are no laws here that prohibit climbing and jumping around on the rocks. You will never have anyone bother you here but remember to always use your head and stay safe and smart. You shouldn't go here alone because it is a semi-isolated place that could present a bad situation if you got hurt and couldn't get out on your own.

Obstacles - Because this is an entirely natural evironment, you won't find any rails, walls, or benches here. What you will find are many sandstone fins, boulders, and monoliths to jump and climb on. Many of the rocks form perfect natural lips for hand holds which opens up the possibilities for cat leaps. In addition, there are precision jumps galore and countless opportunities for quadrupedal movement and scrambling up and down the rocks. If you are creative enough, you'll find the natural equivalent to nearly every obstacle found in man-made environments.

Features: Rocks of all shapes and sizes.

Lacks: Man-made obstacles.

Overall - Overall, Red Rocks is a great place to train in a natural environment. It is an incredible natural environment conveniently placed at the edge of a large city. Here you can train all of your parkour abilities including ones that you use rarely in the urban environment.
